How to split a PDF into smaller documents

Extract page ranges, divide a long document or save pages separately.

Before you start

One PDF and a list of the page numbers you want to keep.

1. Identify the page numbers

Open the PDF and use the viewer page count. Printed page labels may differ from the actual PDF page positions.

2. Choose a split mode

Use ranges for selected sections, fixed groups for equal-size batches, or individual pages for separate outputs. Review the selected range before processing.

3. Save and inspect

Download the split results. Open each file to confirm the section starts and ends on the right page.

Check the result

Check whether a cover page belongs with each section. Confirm that signatures, appendices and blank separator pages have not been left in the wrong output.

What to know

Splitting is page-based. It does not separate paragraphs within a page or create new page numbers in the document.
